Anzac Day services across the district

Communities across the district will come together this Saturday, April 25, to commemorate ANZAC Day with a range of dawn and mid-morning services.

First observed in 1916, the Anzac Day Act made April 25 a public holiday in 1920 to commemorate those who died in World War I. These days, the day honours all New Zealanders who have served in wars overseas including current and returned service personnel

Mangawhai’s dawn service will begin at 6am at 21 Alamar Crescent.

In Maungatūroto, the dawn service will be held outside the Centennial Hall on View Street, with attendees asked to arrive at 5.45am for a 6am start.

In Waipū, a dawn service will take place at the Services Cemetery on Cove Road at sunrise (6.56am). A street parade and remembrance service will follow later in the morning, with the service starting at 11am in The Centre car park.

The Hakaru RSA will host its service at 733 Settlement Road, Kaiwaka. Attendees are asked to assemble at 10am, with the parade forming at 10.20am and marching on at 10.30am.

Residents are encouraged to attend their local service to pay their respects and honour those who served.
