Coastguard flare exercise planned at Mangawhai Heads

Flares may be visible around Mangawhai Heads on Friday September 18 as Coastguard Mangawhai holds a distress-flare training exercise at the boat ramp from 6pm to 7.30pm.

The public has been advised not to be alarmed, with emergency services and other relevant organisations notified of the exercise.

The exercise is for Coastguard Mangawhai personnel only, but members of the public are welcome to watch from a safe distance.

Coastguard Mangawhai will also collect expired flares for safe disposal during the exercise. Those unable to attend can contact the unit through its Facebook page, while questions about the event can be emailed to training coordinator Nic Berthoud at Nic.berthoud@coastguard.nz.
