Long-standing Northland engineering firm RS Eng is bringing decades of expertise to Mangawhai, opening a new office on Insley Street at the site of the former physiotherapy clinic.
While Mangawhai-based structural engineer Logan Holt has been delivering RS Eng services to clients for the past three years, he will now be able to operate from a dedicated local base, along with newly-appointed geotechnical engineer Mike Davis.
“I enjoy the challenge of the work, collaborating with architects, problem-solving and seeing the finished product,” Holt says. “Having Mike with me in our new office is going to be a real bonus for our local clients.”
Established in 1952, RS Eng offers a broad range of engineering services, including civil, coastal, structural and geotechnical expertise. The company also provides infrastructure solutions ranging from land and commercial development to seismic assessments, wastewater systems and stormwater management.
In addition to residential housing and subdivision projects, RS Eng has contributed to several of Whangarei’s iconic structures, including the Hundertwasser Art Centre, Camera Obscura and Hihiaua Park’s Wave and Wake Stone sculpture.
The firm was instrumental in helping to establish the world’s largest skateboard at Mangawhai Activity Zone (MAZ). Holt, a former builder with 17 years structural engineering experience, is also an avid skateboarder and dedicated extra volunteer hours to the project. He says working on the giant board with Mangawhai Engineering and the MAZ community was a career highlight.
RS Eng practice manager Neil Brown says the new Mangawhai office will reduce travel costs for clients in the area and improve service delivery.
“We’ll be able to offer a wider range of services more efficiently and in a timelier fashion which will be more cost-effective for locals,” he says. “It’s also an important step in developing and building on our connection with the community.”
