Around 500 people turned the sands of Mangawhai Beach into an artist’s canvas for the annual Sandsational competition on January 25. Organisers said that attendance was lower than expected, because of the one-week postponement, but the range of sand sculptures was still impressive.
The junior competition was won by a sculpture of The Daring, while in the senior category was won by The Kraken. The event was supported by the Mangawhai Lions Club, Bunnings Warehouse, The Vet Centre and New World Mangawhai. ...
