Mangawhai lane honours community leader

A new lane in Mangawhai Heads has been named Farnsworth Way in recognition of Mark Farnsworth’s more than 40 years of service to Kaipara and Northland.

The lane was created as part of the Wood Street and surrounds revitalisation and stormwater project.

The unveiling was led by Kaipara District Council Mayor Jonathan Larsen and attended by family, friends and community members.

The honour comes just weeks after Mark received a 2026 Mayoral Award, recognising his lifetime of service to Kaipara and Northland.

For more than 40 years, he has contributed to local government, environmental management, education and community governance, including serving on the former Hobson County Council and as Chair of the Northland Regional Council.

Mayor Jonathan Larsen said Farnsworth had made a lasting difference through decades of community service.

“Mark has dedicated decades of his life to serving others. Farnsworth Way is a fitting tribute to his leadership, commitment and the lasting difference he has made to our communities.

“I am extremely grateful for all he has done for Kaipara.”

Farnsworth Way will serve as a lasting tribute to Mark’s contribution to Kaipara.
