A cast of local actors, dancers and musicians will take to the stage at Hakaru Hall this month for the Mangawhai Players’ latest production, bringing William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to life through four performances across one weekend.
Directed by Susan Dugdale and Jenny Sharp, with music production by Gabrielle Crowe, the show blends acting, live music and expressive dance, with organisers promising innovative staging and elaborate costumes for the timeless comedy.
Dugdale said the performance is a celebration of imagination, community, and the joy of live performance.
“We have an incredibly talented cast and crew, and audiences can expect something truly special – fabulous costuming, innovative staging, and the timeless beauty of Shakespeare’s language brought to life in a way that is fresh, fun, and full of heart.”
The Mangawhai Players were formed in 2019 under Dugdale’s direction, debuting with a stage adaptation of Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood to considerable acclaim.
Since then, they have presented Aladdin, a pantomime, and most recently ‘Tangaroa’s Gift’, an original retelling by local children of the story through movement and music.
The group is dedicated to supporting the performing arts in Mangawhai and its surrounding communities, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream marks another milestone in that mission.
Each performance will take place at Hakaru Hall, 740 Settlement Road, Hakaru, Saturday 27 June & Sunday 28 June 2026.
Tickets are available here, with limited cash sales at the door.
