Whether anchored at sea, docked at a marina or stationed on dry land, Waipu Marine Electrics ensures boaties have the essential electrical/electronic services and solutions they need to be safe on the water.
Operating across Northland, from Warkworth to Tutukaka, business owner Grant Deihl delivers professional marine electrical services through his fully equipped mobile van and since March, has expanded operations with a newly built Waipu-based workshop.
As a sole trader, the marine electrician with over 20 years of certification, offers a hands-on approach, assuring boat owners have confidence knowing who is working on their vessels. Grant’s experience ranges from commercial ferries and Coastguard rescue boats to trailer boats and jetskis.
Along with wife Mandy and their dog Inja, Grant moved from Franklin to Waipu a year ago in pursuit of a coastal lifestyle.
“We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle and live on a bit of land. It took us a few years but eventually we found a beautiful spot in a great community,” he says. “We’d visited Waipu on numerous occasions and fell in love with the area, especially the Scottish heritage, which connects with my own ancestry. It is home.”
With their daughter now in university, the couple takes full advantage of the coastal lifestyle together, diving and fishing off Bream Bay and enjoying the local markets in the wider region.
“In my spare time, I’m trying to finish my project boat, a Haines Hunter V19, but it’s far from going yet. Unfortunately, like a builder with a half-finished home, I’ve got little time to work on it!”
