Coast looks forward to ‘Gull effect’

Gull officially opens its unmanned site at 315 Wainui Road this week, after obtaining resource consent in September last year.

The site offers 24/7 drive-through, pay-at-pump technology for purchase of Regular 91 and Gull Force (98) petrol, as well as diesel.

The arrival of the Gull station in Wainui Road is expected to impact on petrol prices around the Coast – something that the NZ Automobile Association calls “the Gull effect”. This is the localised drop in prices at the pump across Gull’s competitors that has been observed elsewhere in the country following the opening of a Gull site.

Local petrol prices have long been a source of complaint on the Coast and were the subject of an investigation by Hibiscus Matters in May last year.

The local community is invited to the official Opening Celebration, which will be held this weekend, on Saturday, August 5, 10am–12 noon at the site. The Silverdale Rugby Club will provide a barbecue, a coffee caravan will give away free coffee and Gull representatives will have spot prizes to give away.
