An authentic Mediterranean food experience is in store for diners at Manly’s newest restaurant, The Palms.
Owner Mehmet Ceran and his family have left no stone unturned in their efforts to create a restaurant that is sophisticated, provides quality food at affordable prices, good service and a personally chosen wines selection to complement the food.
“Mediterranean food is a blend of many cultures and traditions mainly French, Italian and Spanish. Mehmet says. “It is very cosmopolitan, which I believe suits Manly and the wider Whangaparaoa region.”
The Palms menu specialises in a selection of seafood, vegetarian and meat tapas, as well as a range of more traditional main courses. Mehmet says the tapas are ideal sharing and for anyone who wants to taste a range of food without feeling overly full.
“Plus, it means they will always have room for one of our fantastic homemade desserts!”
Mehmet moved to New Zealand from Turkey in 1991 as an antique and textile restorer.
“But I also had a great passion for food and coffee, which is not unusual in Turkey where food and coffee are very much a part of the way we socialise.”
He has been involved with 14 cafes and three small Turkish outlets in Auckland and on the Coast, and continues to import and sell coffee roasters, and train people in coffee roasting.
“The coffee at The Palms is a unique blend, with beans from four continents.”
The new restaurant caters for a range of dining experiences, from intimate dinners for two to groups of up to 40. Children are welcome and people with special dietary requirements or allergies are specifically catered for. The restaurant aims to be 100 percent peanut free.
Twenty staff are involved in the seven-day-a-week operation, where customers are welcome to pop in for a coffee and snack, or an after work drink.
“Hospitality demands hospitality from the hosts, and I believe the ambience of the new restaurant is second-to-none,” Mehmet says. “ The Coast is well and truly ready for a restaurant with the ‘wow’ factor.”
