As new technology transforms the security industry, Simon Waby and Gavin Weaver have started Total Security in Baxter Street, Warkworth to offer a local service in Mahurangi.
Total Security are specialists in the installation and maintenance of security alarms, CCTV systems, access control, fire security and 24/7 monitoring.
The pair have over 32 years experience in the industry. After leaving Mahurangi College, Gavin began as an apprentice 11 years ago and is now one of the most qualified security technicians in the country.
“It’s something I really enjoy,” Gavin says. “Modern security requires advanced levels of IT knowledge and experience, which is something I have developed over many years.”
Simon grew up in Orewa and has been involved in the security industry for 21 years. He owned and managed a security business in Tauranga with his wife Lesley, before relocating to Mahurangi. He says a lot of the job involves helping people who have recently been the target of crime.
“It’s nice to be able to do something that you know provides people with peace of mind,” Simon says.
A recent industry development is the use of smartphone technology.
“If you have security cameras, you can then view the footage on your smartphone to instantly check what triggered it,” Simon says.
“You can also view the status of your security alarm system from your smartphone, and disarm your alarm for a tradesperson, allowing them access, and re-arm once that person has left.”
Cameras at your workplace can also provide a good record for health and safety, ensuring best practices are followed or to determine the cause of an accident, Simon says.
Total Security also offers the latest in monitoring, using IP monitoring via the broadband network, which Simon says is a faster, more secure and reliable platform.
