For a good Claus
Santa and Mrs Claus here. We’re now back at the North Pole resting up for Christmas 2026 but before we finish our year off we’d like to thank the lovely communities of Warkworth and Snells Beach for all the support they gave us when we were fundraising for the Child Cancer Foundation, a cause we raise money for every year.
Special thanks goes to our lovely Leanne aka Miss Christmas for her continued support. Also Colin from The Photo Store in Warkworth for the use of his front kerb. And finally Amanda and Leanne for the proceeds from the market at Snells Beach (they were gems) and Charlotte, who was the Cookie Time girl. All these kind people helped towards raising the sum of $1250.
We must also mention the fun we had at Highfield Donkey Park and the reading of Christmas stories to the children at the Warkworth Library. It was so good to see happy children of all ages on our trips around the area and at the Santa Parade.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again in December.
Have a good year.

Messing with carols
I’m from an antique generation and I’m wondering if anyone else feels as I do about the modern messing about with the established Christmas carols.
I have no objection whatsoever to the modern ones, in fact, I rather like them. However, I’m somewhat brassed off with what young people are doing to our classics, so much so, some carols are hard to recognise, they are so distorted.
It would be interesting to hear if others feel as I do, at the mockery of the well-known and loved. Here’s a poem to express my feelings.
Carols you never want to hear again
‘Tis said that Xmas is all about love
And I believe that to be true,
But what would you think if the seasonal dove
Sounded its song like that of a shrew?
Today, the carols we loved and all knew
Are squawked like a piggy in pain
It sounds like it’s caught in the miserable noose
Of a nasty old man out for gain.
Last evening, I heard O Holy Night,
This’ll be good, so I thought,
But the notes were those of a bloke, not a knight,
Lurching drunk on the wine he had bought.
What happened to Classic? Is my question today
Would you ever rewrite Beethoven or Bach?
What about Jane Austen or Twain
The result would be barren and stark.
Let’s go back to the archetype, simple and true
Don’t mess with the rhythm or rhyme
I really dislike it, don’t you?
They’ve ruined the beauty, with slime.

Unimpressed
We are lucky to have some 10 restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating in Warkworth. All is fine until certain gentlemen, with their beloved vehicles, appear. Souped-up rice rockets with exhausts like flue pipes, and motorcycles with exhausts rivalling the trumpets of Jericho!
Guys, do you really think that we admire it when you roar down Queen Street and up Kapanui? Surprise: we do not.
Could you perhaps NOT open the throttle to the fullest and could you perhaps NOT rev up your engines to the max? Then ordinary people can have a bit of peace and quiet when sitting outside. Or is that too much to ask?
