Coast Storm’s A-Team tops division in debut season

The new Hibiscus Coast volleyball club wrapped up a successful debut season, showing strong results across both of its teams, with one headed to the club championships and the other improving its skillset for next season.

The A Team finished first in division three, earning a place in the division promotion playoffs on Saturday, September 13 at Waitakere Trusts Stadium, where they won both their matches against division two teams. The team has also qualified for the New Zealand Club Championships, taking place October 1-4 at Bruce Pulman Arena.

The B Team competed in division four, where no promotion pathway was available. However, their season has the option to compete in a friendly tournament in South Auckland from September 24 to 27 to wrap up their season.

Fiona Scrimshaw, founder of Coast Storm, says that she is proud of her teams and looks forward to the upcoming competitions. Although the B Team weren’t able to progress any further, she praised the skills they’ve learned throughout the season.
“The standard available was perfect for the development of our team and provided many great opportunities to grow and learn as individuals and a team,” she says.

Fiona invites any local players to join tryouts for the teams next year as they look towards expanding next year.

“We have loved every minute of this season!  We have brought together a wonderful group of players, of all ages, and we can’t wait to see what next year brings,” she says.
