Half marathon grows

Many keen runners, as well as those tackling their first running event, will line up for the start of the Orewa Beach Half Marathon on Sunday, April 12.

The event has grown into one of the largest in the country, with 2200 participants last year.

Laraine Chase of Summit Events, which organises the Orewa Beach Half Marathon, says that while dedicated runners treat it as training for the Rotorua Half Marathon in May, others see it as an opportunity to mark significant weight loss and motivation for a return to fitness.

Rodney MP Mark Mitchell, as well as all his office staff in Orewa, are entered in the event and local businesses have also taken up the challenge in good numbers, including Foodstuffs North Island, Silverdale Medical and Edenfx HSE Recruitment Silverdale.

The event offers 5km, 10.5km and 21km run and walking options for all ages on a course through Orewa and Silverdale North.
