By Roger Reid. The Hibiscus Coast Raiders Old Boys were back on the field on Sunday, May 25, taking on Glenora in an Auckland Masters rugby league clash hosted by the Glenfield Greyhounds Rugby League Club.
While no official scores are recorded in Masters League, the competitive spirit was still alive and well, with Glenora unofficially edging the Raiders 4-3.
Masters rugby league in Auckland is played in rotating modules of eight teams, with clubs taking turns hosting the full round of games every third week.
The over-35 competition focuses on participation, fitness and camaraderie, giving former players the chance to stay active and connected to the game in a social environment.
The Raiders Old Boys are encouraging anyone aged over 35 who still has “some footy in the tank” to get involved.
“Masters League is all about fun, fitness and friendship – no pressure, no finals, just mateship and memories,” the club says.
