A new family-run business is opening its doors on Foundry Road in Silverdale, with Hibiscus Outdoors set to offer a wide range of outdoor and lifestyle products alongside a strong focus on service and community involvement.
Owners Glenn and Marg Dunn-Parrant are launching the business with the support of their son, Oliver.
After returning to NZ four years ago, Glenn, who worked as a chartered accountant in the United Kingdom, began looking for a business that aligned with both his interests and his family’s values. Living on the Hibiscus Coast helped shape that decision.
The family has strong ties to the Coast, from the 1990s when Glenn’s parents lived on the Coast.
“We saw a real opportunity here,” Glenn says. “If you are going to do something, it should be something you are genuinely interested in.”
The Silverdale store, which opens Saturday February 14, will stock a broad range of outdoor power tools, barbecues and accessories, lawn mowers ranging from small domestic models through to commercial ride-on machines, as well as a selection of outdoor lifestyle products.
Hibiscus Outdoors will include a service centre and parts department, with plans to host barbecue demonstrations and showcase outdoor kitchens, giving customers the chance to see products in action.
“We wanted to create a place where people know they are going to get great service,” Glenn says. “We want customers to feel confident that the people they talk to are here to help and will work with them to find the right solution.”
