With new tenancy laws coming into force last month, now is the ideal time for landlords to hand over the responsibilities of renting to a specialist residential property agent.
That’s the view of Quinovic Millwater owner Craig Harrison and property manager Catherine Buchanan, who are seeing a boom in demand that has led to them moving into a bright new office off Moana Avenue in Ōrewa.
They say the days of landlords being able to deal with the complexities of what they and tenants are entitled to are no longer straightforward, but they can help.
“The new laws have made a huge difference. People are realising they’re in over their heads. It’s not something where private landlords can have a DIY approach anymore – they don’t know what they don’t know,” Catherine says.
Craig points out that the difference with Quinovic is that the company is owner-operated and deals exclusively with residential tenancies, as opposed to most property management that is a tack-on service to real estate agents focused on buying and selling.
“We’re established for three years, I own the business and people deal directly with me,” Craig says. “We only take on good properties with good owners who want to invest in their properties and don’t let them run down. And we pay out weekly, not fortnightly or monthly.”
Catherine says they are both passionate about personal service.
“It’s all about property care and we take great care of them,” she says. “We have really good relationships with out tenants, as they’re our clients, too. They can ring us and they’ll get the job fixed – we have a great network of local tradies that we use.”
