Beyond the Viewfinder, the current exhibition at the Mangawhai Artists Gallery, is presented by the Mangawhai Snappers Photography Group and is the third exhibition since the group formed four years ago.

The exhibition brings together the work of 15 photographers, each on their own creative journey.

A group founder Barbara Jacomb says for some, this will be the first time they have showed their work.

“What connects the group is a shared interest in photography and the different paths that have led each person here,” she says.

“Snappers has grown into a supportive group where ideas are shared, skills are developed, and confidence builds. In Beyond the Viewfinder, some photographers have focussed on more traditional styles, capturing moments through composition, light and timing. Others have used post-production and digital techniques to shape and reinterpret their images.”

The exhibition moves between the familiar and the unexpected, showing how photography can express a perspective, a feeling or a story.

“At its core, this exhibition is about storytelling – not just through the images themselves, but through the people behind them.”

Work in the exhibition ranges from stunning coastal scenes and wildlife to creative abstracts and everyday moments captured with fresh perspective.

Information on how to join the Snappers will be available at the exhibition.

Beyond the Viewfinder will be on show at the Mangawhai Artists Gallery, 45 Moir Street, Mangawhai, until Thursday May 28. The gallery opens daily from 10.30am to 3.30pm (and from 9am on Saturdays).
