Zyfus in national final

Wellsford heavy metal band Zyfus is heading to the Battle of the Bands national championship finals in Wellington after being one of the winners in the Auckland final on June 5.

One fan described their performance at the Mothership as “exceptional”.

Band members are Martin Worthington on rhythm guitar and vocals, Johnny Barber on drums, Craig Wilson on bass and Karl Moore on lead guitar. Costumes are a big part of the band’s persona in the youth-dominated event. The hoodies help disguise their ages, which range from late 30s to late 50s.

Other Auckland bands heading to Wellington at the end of the month are Blind Eyes, Head Lock Grave, Fools Lagoon and It Come’s Easy. The winners will receive a tour to Japan, as well as recording opportunities.

Battle of the Bands is NZ’s longest running and biggest band competition, this year celebrating its 30th anniversary.
