The controversial plan to reduce damage to tree roots, and erosion, by cutting parking along The Esplanade on Manly Beach goes back before the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board this month.
Initially Auckland Council and the local board did not intend to survey the public before installing 300 bollards on the Manly beachfront to restrict parking.
However, community opposition after the plan was made public in Hibiscus Matters last October resulted in consultation and postponement of the plan. Council also monitored parking over summer.
Consultation ran from November 22-December 10. Council has told the paper it will not share any details regarding the public submissions until staff have reported to the local board. That report is expected to come to the local board workshop on Thursday, February 24.
The issue will then go to a local board business meeting for a final decision – the timing of that is not yet known, but will be next month (March 17) at the earliest.
Workshops and business meetings are both open to the public and currently held via Microsoft Teams. To get a link so you can attend those meetings, email louise.healy@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
