Guides aim for smaller ‘jamboree’

Activity bags ready to be delivered to Guides all over the Hibiscus Coast.

Guides are disappointed that their national Jamboree, which was to have taken place at Mystery Creek in Hamilton in January, has been cancelled.

However, Ōrewa Guides unit team leader Clare Grimshaw says Hibiscus Coast leaders are looking to arrange a smaller scale event so its Rangers and Guides don’t miss out completely.

She says in the meantime, most Guide leaders are running online meetings and there are also a number of online programmes available.

“Some girls are keen for interaction, some are entirely over online anything!” she says.

This term Ōrewa Guides is delivering (contactless) individual activity bags to give more flexible options for Guides at home. They include things such as a recipe, a native seedling and Send a Smile cards to decorate, write and post.

“It’s all about doing the best we can, given the difficult circumstances we find ourselves in,” Clare says.
