Hopes high for Coast waterpark

Waterworld Waterpark hopes to bring its giant inflatable course to Red Beach this summer and directorKel Travers says the response to the announcement of this summer’s dates has been overwhelming.

The inflatable obstacle course, anchored just offshore, provides slips, slides and jumps for anyone over the age of five years. It has been in Auckland for four years, but this will be the first time it’s added the Hibiscus Coast to its schedule.

“People are really excited and hopeful that we can make this happen,” Kel says. “Normally we put out the dates and locations and get a mild response but this year has been completely different. Lockdown has made people keener than ever for some fun in the sun.”

This summer, the plan is to have three of the inflatable waterparks operating at the same time throughout Auckland, which has made the inclusion of Red Beach possible.

Obstacles include a trampoline, ball run, spinning obstacle, stairs and a pipe. New for this season are slides, blobs, swings, balancing balls and slipping waves.

Kel says Covid-19 vaccinations will be mandatory for all participants of vaccination age. Strict protocols will also be in place to ensure social distancing so the waterpark can operate safely – this involves reducing the numbers on the course, and more time between sessions.

The Red Beach dates to pencil in are December 30-January 4.
