The Zonta Club of Mangawhai has joined an international advocacy campaign ‘Zonta Says No’, aimed at ending violence against women and girls. NZ has one of the highest domestic violence rates in the world, with police investigating more than 100,000 family violence cases annually. Nearly half of all homicides and reported violent crimes are family violence-related. Zonta Mangawhai has erected five large doors on Molesworth Drive as a reminder that the suffering of family violence victims continues behind closed doors. The local addition of a small piece of luggage represents the trauma endured by children. Pictured are, from left, Mangawhai president Helen White, Sheryl Smail, Karen Clarke, Ingrid den Boestert, Ann Marinus and Liz Holsted.
