This sculpture could be erected on Moana Reserve in Orewa by the end of next month.

At the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board’s community forum on February 5, Council staff decided to investigate the possibility of an official launch for the sculpture alongside the Orewa Beach Sandcastle Competition on Sunday, March 22.

The sculpture, by Philipp Ripa and John Mulholland, was chosen by public vote, receiving 79 votes, 44 percent of the total.

A budget of $160,000 was allocated by the local board for the project.
