The Kaipara Flats Sports Club has elected a new president with Peter Hudson stepping into the role following the retirement of president Sam Ryburn, who was in the position for 10 years.
The appointment was made at the club’s 35th annual general meeting, held on Monday, September 22 at the clubrooms.
Ryburn praised Hudson’s appointment noting his long history with the club.
“Peter brings many years of experience to the position,” he said.
“He served as secretary for the club back in the rugby days and continued in that role until 2022.”
Ryburn, who was honoured with a life membership at the AGM, reflected on his decade as president.
“We’ve had a lot of disruptions over the years, with covid, several flooding events and the like, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
“It is now time for someone else to take the helm as we look at starting our much-needed clubroom extensions for our growing membership base of just under 500.”
The event drew a strong turnout and saw several changes to the executive committee.
One of the most significant departures was the retirement of treasurer Ros Guy after an extraordinary 51 years of service.
“Ros started off as treasurer for the then Kaipara Flats Rugby Club, before the rugby side of things amalgamated with Omaha and Warkworth Rugby Clubs to form the Mahurangi Rugby Club in 1989, and the Kaipara Flats Sports Club took its place,” Ryburn said.
Jenny Argyle was then voted in as the new treasurer.
The club reminded members that annual memberships are now due.
Clubrooms are open every Thursday from 5.30pm, with meals available from the kitchen. A special general meeting to adopt the club’s new constitution will be held on Monday, October 20 at 7pm. All are welcome to attend.
