Warkworth Hockey Premier 3 Men won the Finals Day Shield for the second consecutive year after defeating North Shore United 3–2 at North Harbour Hockey Association in Rosedale on Saturday, August 22.
Warkworth’s goal scorers were Milton Roseval, Grant Hamilton and Thomas Tameris.
The team had already secured the Championship earlier in the season, finishing unbeaten with 64 points, 14 points clear of runners-up North Shore United, who finished with 50 points. With this result, the team is now in contention for promotion to the Premier 2 competition next year.
The team’s goalkeeper, Graham Buchs, said he was extremely happy to win his second title since joining the Premier Men’s team two years ago.
“It was hugely exciting to play alongside a great bunch of guys, some of whom I was playing hockey with at Mahurangi College over 20 years ago,” Buchs said. “We had a great crowd of supporters, and it’s great to see our teams being competitive and fighting for great results.”
This season has also seen significant growth for Warkworth Hockey Club, which has increased the number of teams to six since its foundation in 2019, when the club started with just one men’s team and one women’s team.
