Coastguard Mangawhai rescues two after boat begins sinking

Two people were safely rescued after their boat began sinking off the Mangawhai coast on Thursday night, with Coastguard Mangawhai crew responding within minutes of the emergency call.

Coastguard Mangawhai launched Kokako Rescue just 15 minutes after receiving the urgent call-out on Thursday, July 16.

The rescue vessel reached the stricken boat within a further 10 minutes, where the two occupants were found standing in ankle-deep water as their vessel took on water.

The pair were transferred safely aboard Kokako Rescue before crew secured the disabled vessel and towed it back to Mangawhai.

Both the occupants and their boat were returned safely to the Mangawhai boat ramp, relieved to be back on shore.

Coastguard Mangawhai praised the quick response of the Kokako Rescue crew, describing the incident as a successful outcome made possible by the crew’s swift and professional actions.
