Mangawhai Football Club is looking for a coach and players for its men’s team ahead of the upcoming season.
The team, which competes in the Northland First Division, finished fifth last season.
Nelson Shaw, former coach and captain of the team last year, believes the arrival of a new coach with the right qualities could see Mangawhai finish among the top three this season.
“We’re looking for someone who has played or coached before at a reasonable level, who has the time to commit to one or two training sessions a week, plus matches,” he said.
According to Shaw, the ability to build a strong team, both individually and as a group, is key.
Player registrations are expected to open in mid-February, with training starting in early March. “Last year’s fee was $240, which covered the 16 matches and the running costs of the club. The playing kit, including shorts and shirts, is provided, but players must supply their own black socks,” he added.
The season is likely to start in late April or May.
