Mangawhai-based charity Heart Place Hospital has raised $16,500 at its charity golf tournament held at Omaha Beach Golf Club on September 24.
A full field of golfers took part in supporting the charity’s wellbeing programmes for frontline workers in health, education and community services.
Omaha Beach Golf Club stepped in to host the tournament after Mangawhai Golf Club cancelled the original booking, as reported in the Mangawhai Focus in June.
Heart Place Hospital Charitable Trust founder and chief executive Jacqui O’Connor says Omaha’s welcome helped make the day possible.
“They welcomed our event, our golfers and our supporters, helping us turn what could have been a challenging situation into an incredible day for Heart Place Hospital.”
The registered charity provides wellbeing programmes and support for people who care for others. Its services include workshops, retreats, educational programmes and direct support.
This year’s proceeds will help the charity purchase and provide access to Flowpresso and OlyLife wellbeing equipment.

O’Connor says the charity wants to extend support beyond its Mangawhai base in the future, giving frontline workers opportunities to rest and recharge.
“Our vision is to take this support into workplaces such as hospitals and schools, creating a ripple effect, supporting one person to pause, restore and reconnect, so they can take that wellbeing back to their whānau, workplace and community.”
Volunteers from ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Mangawhai Lions Club and Celebrity Speakers helped run the tournament, alongside sponsors, trustees, service providers and people who donated time, prizes and expertise.
Activities included a sausage sizzle, raffle, novelty hole and drink cart, with Dayle Barnes from Barfoot & Thompson leading an auction. More than $50,000 worth of prizes were on offer.
O’Connor thanked everyone who played, sponsored, volunteered or donated, saying the day demonstrated the community’s support for “caring for the people who care for everyone else”.
