Owners of new business Jansen Flooring, Matt and Jordyn Jansen, have hit the ground running, delivering quality flooring products and service to a growing customer base with a focus on community care and environmental mindfulness.
Since launching in May, the response from the community has been overwhelming, Matt says.
“We’re pretty well booked out for most of this month with installing and have heaps of quotes lined up,” he says. “It’s definitely ticking over, so off to a good start.”
A carpet/vinyl layer for over 20 years, Matt brings hands-on expertise to the business, while Jordyn manages the administration and the showroom. They employ two installers and work with a team of contractors to offer a wide range of carpets, vinyls and floor tiles.
Married for 13 years, the couple moved to Kaiwaka eight years ago from Albany, seeking more space and a better lifestyle.
“The best thing we ever did,” Jordyn says. “The whole way of life is just so much nicer.”
However, Matt and Jordyn’s business ethos also focuses on community and sustainability, with removed old wool carpet repurposed for weed matting instead of sent to landfill, and pieces of secondhand and new carpet donated to people in need.
“We had a really good piece of new carpet that we didn’t need, so we just thought, let’s just give it away,” Jordyn says. “It just felt like the right thing to do, especially with how cold it’s been lately.”
Another small lot of used carpet, “still in good nick,” was also donated to a family.
“We try to throw away as little as possible,” Matt says.
The couple’s philanthropy also extends beyond their business – they are sponsors of Maungaturoto Primary School and the recent Kaiwaka Lantern Festival, and have also been known to personally donate Christmas hams to locals who otherwise would go without.
“It’s just something we like doing,” Jordyn says. “We just like giving back.”
