Pink fundraisers taking off

Locals are getting behind Pink Ribbon Breakfast month in a big way this year, with breakfasts (and lunches) being held all over the Coast to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Raising money for good causes is nothing new for Dazzling Violets ‘Queen’, Margie Loftus of Orewa, but this year she is going the extra mile, organising a big Pink Ribbon lunch with the assistance of her fellow Violets.

It’s bound to be a splendid occasion, with Margie making the gourmet finger food herself. She says she decided to hold a lunch because “lunch is more exciting than breakfast” – bubbles will  be served and there will be numerous prize draws and a raffle, all included in the ticket price of $50.

The Dazzling Violets are an offshoot of the Red Hatters, with members dressing up to the nines at every opportunity.

The Pink Ribbon lunch will be held on May 27 at Sharks Bar & Function Centre, Victor Eaves Park,Orewa, from 12noon to 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome – guests are asked to wear pink, and there is a prize for the best dressed.

Booking is essential, email dazzlingviolets@clear.net.nz or phone Margie, 426 9733 or 021 051 0230.

Lazy Sunday pink breakfast

Caroline Rademeyer from Tandem Harcourts in Silverdale is hosting a community Pink Ribbon Breakfast to fundraise for breast cancer research and support patients with the disease.

She says she decided to get involved because she knows people who are “fighting the cancer battle”.
“Some have lost, and some survived miraculously,” she says. “I feel I am in a position now to help in the only way I know how to.”

Her breakfast is being held at the Hibiscus Coast Community RSA, 43A Vipond Rd, Whangaparaoa, on Sunday May 21. It starts at the civilised Sunday breakfast hour of 10.30am and goes until 12 noon.

All are welcome. Caroline asks that people bring a plate and a donation, and she will add a touch of pink! Gold coin spot raffles will be held and she is hoping to raise $1500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
